Textile merchandise for hospitality and culture
By Rockland develops and produces custom textile collections for museum shops, hotel shops, theatres and brands with something to say. Designed in Amsterdam, made in Europe, in editions from a few dozen pieces upwards. We are not a general merchandise supplier — we are a design studio that makes textile products belonging to a specific place.
Textile merchandise for hospitality, culture and remarkable brands
There is no shortage of companies that will print your logo on a stock T-shirt. If that is the brief, dozens of suppliers will do it faster and cheaper than we will, and you should use one of them.
We are for the other brief: a shop in a museum, hotel or theatre where visitors arrive already convinced, where the product has to be good enough to leave with, and where what is on the shelf should look like it belongs to the building rather than to a catalogue. That is a design question, not a printing question.
What we make
- Museum shop collections — developed from a collection, an exhibition, a building or an archive.
- Hotel shop and in-room retail — robes, totes, scarves, caps and knitwear in the identity of the property.
- Theatre and concert hall merchandise — for the foyer, for productions, and for seasonal programmes.
- Brand and campaign collections — editions tied to an opening, an anniversary or a launch.
- Staff merchandise and onboarding packages — what new colleagues receive on their first day.
- Relation and partner gifts — textiles that are kept rather than discarded.
Why small editions are the point, not a limitation
We produce to order. There is no warehouse, no stock, and therefore no need to order a year's worth to reach a price break. A collection can start at a few dozen pieces, be tested in the shop, and be reordered when it sells.
For a museum or a hotel shop this changes what is possible. An exhibition running for four months can have its own edition. A product that does not sell does not sit in a stockroom for three years. And a product that does sell can be repeated, because the patterns and specifications remain on file.
It also removes the oldest problem in merchandise: ordering 2,000 units of something nobody wanted in order to make the unit price acceptable.
Staff clothing and merchandise in one programme
This is where we differ from almost everyone else in this field. By Rockland designs and produces corporate clothing for hotels, museums, theatres and restaurants — and the merchandise those same places sell.
Doing both in one programme means the two can share a palette, a material family and a set of patterns. The scarf in the shop can be the scarf the front-of-house team wears. The robe sold to guests can be the robe the spa uses. The tote given to partners can come from the same cloth as the staff apron.
That is the complete textile brand experience: what the staff wear, what the guest buys, and what partners are given. It is a stronger proposition than either half on its own, and the development cost is carried once instead of twice.

How a collection is developed
- Source material — the collection, the building, the archive, the identity. We work from what is already there rather than inventing a motif.
- Concept and selection — which products make sense for this audience and this shop, at which price points.
- Design and material — the product itself: cut, cloth, colour, finish, label.
- Sampling — physical samples before anything is committed.
- Production in Europe — made to order, in the edition size you actually need.
- Repeat — patterns and specifications kept on file, so what sells can be made again.
Sustainability and sourcing
- European production only, at ateliers that are BSCI members. Origin traceable per item.
- ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified for quality and environmental management.
- Made to order — no stock, no overproduction, no unsold surplus at the end of a season.
- Member of the NEN standards committee on Circular Textiles in the Netherlands.
- Take-back and fibre recovery of end-of-life textiles into new yarns and products.
For public institutions this matters twice over: cultural organisations are increasingly held to sustainability criteria in procurement, and a shop that sells products made under conditions the institution could not defend is a reputational risk rather than an income stream.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order quantity?
We work to order, so there is no minimum stock run. The practical floor depends on the product and the technique rather than on a fixed number, and we will tell you honestly where it sits for what you have in mind.
Can you produce for a temporary exhibition?
Yes, and small editions are what make that viable. A run tied to a four-month exhibition does not have to be ordered at a volume that outlives the exhibition by years.
Do you work with our designer or agency?
Regularly. Where an institution has a house designer or an exhibition designer, we translate their work into producible textile products rather than replacing them.
Can you deliver shop-ready?
Tell us what your shop system requires — labelling, barcoding, packaging, delivery schedule — and we will confirm what we can do for your situation before you commit.
Do you work outside the Netherlands?
Yes. We are based in Amsterdam and work for clients across Europe, with production in European ateliers.
Can the collection match our staff clothing?
That is often the best reason to work with us. Developing both together means one palette, one material family and one set of patterns, instead of two suppliers who have never spoken.
